Brian Gilbert is the proud owner and operator of Due North Guide Service.

From a young age, Brian had a deep passion for hunting and fishing. Born and raised in beautiful Michigan, he quickly came to appreciate the richness and diversity of the state’s natural resources. As a child, he spent much of his time following in his father’s footsteps—whether with a fishing rod or a hunting rifle in hand. He learned how to read the water for fish, what to look for in the woods for deer, and, most importantly, how to be a true steward of the land.

When it came time to leave home and begin his journey into adulthood, Brian moved to Michigan’s stunning Upper Peninsula to study forestry at Michigan Tech. While living up north, he discovered the art of fly fishing—and fell in love with the pursuit of native brook trout. It wasn’t long before he became an avid fly angler, constantly exploring new waters in search of what he called “fishy” spots.

Over the years, Brian realized that fishing was more than just a passion—it was something he could build a career around. More than that, it was something he could share with others in a meaningful way. He began guiding professionally in 2017 and has been on the water nearly every day since.

Brian offers guided trips using either conventional spinning gear or fly gear, depending on the target species and the client’s preference. He welcomes anglers of all ages and experience levels, tailoring each trip to ensure you leave with a great memory—and a new story to tell. He also offers one-on-one casting lessons, whether you're brand new, a bit rusty, or just looking for a quick tune-up.
